Frequently Asked Questions

WHO MAY APPLY TO BLACK HILLS BIBLICAL INSTITUTE?

Black Hills Biblical Institute welcomes potential students who value a Bible-based education and meet the admissions criteria. All applications for admission to Black Hills Biblical Institute will be considered without regard to gender, race, national or ethnic origin, or disability.

HOW ARE PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS EVALUATED?

The prospective student is evaluated according to academic background, moral character, churchmanship, and personal testimony of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In considering applicants, an admissions committee (appointed by the Director) will review the prospective student's complete school record, recommendations, and personal information. If the prospective student satisfies the admissions criteria, full acceptance is normally granted; but BHBI reserves the right to refuse admission as necessary in the best interests of the Institute.

ONCE ADMITTED, ARE STUDENTS REQUIRED TO ABIDE BY A CERTAIN CODE OF CONDUCT?

As Christian leaders, students are expected to conduct themselves in a way that honors Jesus Christ and sets an example for others to follow. Accordingly, students are urged to read carefully the Articles of Faith, and to observe the policies set forth in this Catalogue. Conduct unbecoming Christian leaders may be cause for disciplinary action.

CAN I AUDIT CLASSES AT BHBI?

Yes, students may be admitted to Black Hills Biblical Institute on an audit basis, in keeping with the policies set forth below ("Academic Policies"). Audit students must submit a completed Application Form, together with a $25 application fee.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR HOME-SCHOOLED STUDENTS?

Black Hills Biblical Institute welcomes home-schooled students who meet admission requirements. Typically, an interview with the Director of Admissions and scores from standardized tests such as the ACT or SAT are used to help assess readiness for college-level academic work. Home-schooled applicants entering BHBI for the first time or having completed fewer than 15 hours of post-secondary work, should also provide a transcript or detailed description of curriculum, giving evidence of subject preparation equivalent to that of a high school graduate.

WHAT IF I AM A FORMER STUDENT SEEKING READMISSION TO BHBI?

Students seeking readmission after an absence of one year (two or more consecutive semesters, excluding summer and short terms) must submit a new Application Form, the $25 application fee, a new Church Endorsement Form, official transcripts of any additional college work attempted, and other material as determined by the Admissions Committee. Readmission cannot be considered unless all previous obligations with the BHBI have been met. Readmitted former students will enter under the requirements of the Catalogue current at the time of readmission.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Contact the Admissions Office by phone (605-342-9000) or e-mail (registrar@bhbi.us) to obtain an application packet. Applicants must submit the appropriate forms and materials, accompanied by non-refundable $25 application fee. Applications will not be processed without the application fee.

Transfer applicants taking courses for credit must provide official transcripts from all previously attended educational institutions. Full acceptance cannot be granted until this requirement is fulfilled.

MAY I VISIT THE CAMPUS?

Students are encouraged to visit BHBI to tour the facility, sit in on classes, or meet with an admissions counselor. To arrange your visit, contact the Admissions Office at 605-342-9000 or by email at registrar@bhbi.us.
